IOE named World Number 1 for Education in QS subject rankings

IOE, 果冻影院鈥檚 Faculty of Education and Society, has been named Number 1 for Education in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for the ninth year in a row.
IOE focuses on knowledge and people, working across education, culture, psychology and social science to shape policy and help governments, organisations and individuals navigate a radically changing society. The depth, breadth and interdisciplinarity of its work is fundamental to its impact and success.
The news of IOE鈥檚 Number 1 Ranking comes in the year IOE is celebrating its 120th anniversary. Throughout 2022 the community is reflecting on IOE鈥檚 work and how the institute grew from the London Day Training College with just 58 students to the world-leading faculty it is today.
Professor Li Wei, Director and Dean of IOE, said: 鈥淭his is the ninth year in a row that IOE has been ranked number one in the world for Education. In any year this would be cause for celebration. It is especially welcome in 2022 as we celebrate IOE鈥檚 120th anniversary and 120 years at the forefront of research and teaching on education and society.
鈥淭he ranking is once again testament to the intellectual strength of our work, driven by our commitment to equalising opportunities and empowering individuals and societies. IOE represents one of the world鈥檚 greatest concentrations of expertise on education, but also the lives of children and young people, their families and communities 鈥� bridging the spheres of learning, work, culture, technology and health. It is also one of the most expansive, leading methodological innovation via new technologies such as haptics as well as data science and neuroscience. 聽

IOE鈥檚 work across education and society is internationally renowned and to be named Number 1 for nine years in a row is fantastic recognition of the teaching, research, and reputation of the faculty鈥檚 work.鈥�
In addition to the number 1 position for education, eight聽other subject areas from 果冻影院 have been ranked in the top 10 globally: archaeology (3rd), architecture and the built environment (3rd), anthropology (4th), pharmacy and pharmacology (4th), anatomy and physiology (6th), medicine (7th), psychology (7th),聽and geography (9th).
To compile the subject rankings, QS used four key metrics (including academic standing, research performance based on citations and impact, and graduate employability) 鈥� the precise weighting of which varies by subject to reflect differing publication cultures across disciplines.
Compared to other UK universities, 34 果冻影院 subjects are in the top five 鈥� with all but three subjects ranking inside the top 10.
The QS World University Rankings, which rank universities overall rather than at subject level, will be published later this year. The last edition of these rankings placed 果冻影院 at joint 8th in the world.
