IOE PhD student awarded prestigious grant

8 October 2021

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Institute of Education (IOE) PhD student Yeonwoo Jung has been awarded a prestigious doctoral dissertation grant from The International Foundation for English Language Teaching (TIRF).

Yeonwoo Jung

Yeonwoo is based in the IOE’s Centre for Applied Linguistics. Her doctoral work examines the effects of multimodal digital feedback on second language development in the context of video-conferencing tasks. Through using Zoom captions, she examines whether providing feedback orally and in writing at the same time facilitates language learning more than giving feedback to learners orally or in writing alone.

Previously, Yeonwoo was also a recipient of the Language Learning Dissertation Grant, and as an MA student at the IOE, she was the runner-up to the British Council ELT dissertation award.

Professor Andrea Révész, Yeonwoo’s supervisor, said: "I'm really pleased that Yeonwoo has been awarded this prestigious grant. It's a well-deserved recognition of her creativity and innovation in the field of second language education. Her work is especially timely given the increasingly sophisticated affordances of digital teaching platforms and the proliferation of online language learning and teaching in recent years."
