果冻影院 Institute of Education retains world number one position for Education in QS subject rankings

4 March 2020

果冻影院 Institute of Education (IOE) has been ranked as the world number one for Education for the seventh year in a row, the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject published today (4 March) reveal.

果冻影院 Institute of Education named World Number 1 for Education

Speaking on the result, Interim Director Professor Sue Rogers said:聽

鈥淭he achievement of world number 1 in education for the seventh year in a row is a truly outstanding result for the IOE and reflects the world-leading calibre and dedication of our academic community. My thanks and congratulations go to IOE colleagues, our students and alumni, and to the partners we work with, for their part in this success.鈥

The IOE has enjoyed a productive year. In the past 12 months, research from the Institute has highlighted that shorter break times could be harming children鈥檚 development, one in four teachers work more than 60 hours per week, and spending more in time in nature can improve young people鈥檚 confidence.

The IOE also recently launched the new Centre for Education Policy and Equalising Opportunities (CEPEO) and produced a project where schools can visit the former concentration camp Bergen-Belsen to educate the next generation about the Holocaust.

Work for the upcoming year will include research on the impact of free schools on local pupils鈥 outcomes and how organisations determine which migrants 鈥榙eserve鈥 welfare services.

2020 will also see the Institute celebrate 50 years of the , a world renowned study through which it follows the lives of around 17,000 people born in England, Scotland and Wales in a single week of 1970. The study is a vital source of evidence on key policy areas such as social mobility, education, training and employment.

In addition to the IOE鈥檚 number 1 position, eight聽other subject areas from 果冻影院 have been ranked in the top 10 globally: archaeology (3rd), architecture and the built environment (3rd), anthropology (4th), anatomy and physiology (5th), pharmacy and pharmacology (5th), psychology (7th), geography (8th) and medicine (8th).

Professor David Price, 果冻影院 Vice-Provost (Research), said: 鈥淭his is an incredible achievement, and testament to the hard work of IOE colleagues who have made it possible. Through their commitment to academic excellence, impactful research and engaging with the communities we serve, they make 果冻影院 a world-leading centre for excellence in education research, and retaining this ranking for seven consecutive years is a testament to that.鈥
