Since the late nineteenth century, space has been represented – in philosophy, art and science fiction – as a place of infinite possibilities. Yet as the twentieth century progressed, space became a site for nationalistic power struggles, and in the twenty-first century space is increasingly the latest plaything for bored billionaires. In this talk, Osnat Katz explores the liberatory possibilities and troubling past of space – and offers a way forward for space to live up to its liberatory potential.
