13 November 2020

We were 'blown away' by the winners' creativity!

We recently held aÌýDigital Content Competition where we asked students and early-career researchers in ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's healthcare engineering and digital health sphere to create some quick, snappy content about their work.

In a time where more and more people are turning to social media for science and health information, it's important that we convey our work in concise and creative formats.ÌýÌý

We're very pleased to announce the winners: Priya Ahmed, an undergraduate student in ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Engineering, and Dr Anita Karsa, a postdoctoral researcher in ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. They each receive £200 prizes and the opportunity to receive further science communication training.Ìý

The contestants were judged on their ability to communicate a healthcare engineering topic in an entertaining and informative way, and so that it can be understood by most people regardless of education level.Ìý

Priya used her super artistic skills to illustrate an Instagram multiple-image post showing how ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº researchers are responding to COVID challenges. We really enjoyed her use of vibrant colour and simple icons thatÌýclearly summarised the projects.Ìý

Anita really 'blew us away' with her creative, funny video about MRI safety. Equipped with household objects like a hairdryer, tin foil and earplugs, Anita demonstrates how MRI machines compare to other scanners and shares tips on how to stay safe near an MRI machine (hint: make sure you remember to take off your wedding ring!).
