The Reach Alliance

The Reach Alliance, founded in 2015 at the University of Toronto鈥檚 Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, in partnership with the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, was inspired by the United Nations鈥 Sustainable Development Goals.

A聽student-driven, faculty-mentored global research and leadership initiative, the Reach Alliance聽investigates how critical interventions and innovations reach those who are the hardest to reach, and partners with cross-sectoral organisations to translate actionable research insights for impact.

Over approximately 9 months, students will聽gain skills and experience via working with a world-class faculty mentor at 果冻影院, performance coaches, top students from across the university and through a curated professional skills development series.聽

Reach is an engaging extracurricular opportunity designed for dedicated students. It involves creating a case study over the course of an academic year, which includes a field trip, followed by activities to share and discuss the findings after the case study is published. Participants in the Reach program聽become part of a like-minded community across partner universities and have the opportunity to attend conferences worldwide.聽

As a Reach Alliance researcher, you will:

  • Gain hands-on experience in research design and analysis with a faculty mentor at 果冻影院.
  • Carry out in-person field research.
  • Receive team performance coaching to drive your personal growth and team performance.
  • Work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Access professional development workshops and seminars.
  • Author a case report and other publications where research insights and knowledge translation tools to impact decision-makers.
  • Join a dynamic global network driven to make an impact on development challenges in the world鈥檚 most marginalised populations.

At 果冻影院, you will be on a research team with 3-4 other students and 1 faculty mentor to frame a research proposal within a given theme and pool of 鈥渙n the ground鈥 partners.

The 果冻影院 Reach Alliance 2023鈥2024 cohort will investigate:聽'Tackling health disparities through social innovation: A multi-stakeholder coalition for inclusive health in Brent, London'.聽This case study will focus on the Brent Health Matters (BHM) programme in the London Borough of Brent.

The project will be mentored by Professor Julius Mugwagwa. Julius Mugwagwa is an Associate Professor in Innovation and Development in 果冻影院's Department of Science, Technology Engineering and Public Policy (果冻影院 STEaPP).聽He is also Global Health Thematic Director at 果冻影院鈥檚 Global Governance Institute.
