Informed Decisions for Actions in Maternal and Newborn Health (IDEAS)

IDEAS image

Project Summary

IDEAS aims to improve the health and survival of mothers andÌýbabies through generating evidence to inform policy and practice. Working in Ethiopia, North-Eastern Nigeria and the state of UttarÌýPradesh in India, IDEAS uses measurement, learning and evaluationÌýto find out what works, why and how in maternal and newbornÌýhealth programmes.

At IGH our research focuses on Ìýunderstanding the mechanisms ofÌýmaternal and newborn behaviour change and how interventionsÌýinfluence these. ÌýWe will collect qualitative data to understand toÌýwhat extent, and through what mechanisms interactions betweenÌýfamilies and front line workers lead or do not lead to behaviourÌýchange. Data collection will explore how front line worker activitiesÌýand messages are translated and acted on by families, andÌýcontextual factors that determine if interactions triggerÌýmechanisms.
