The MRU is a cross-departmental and interdisciplinary research unit based within the Geography Department at 果冻影院 which has academic members and researchers from many different areas of 果冻影院.
The MRU is currently听led by Co-Directors听Professor听Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh, Professor听Johanna Waters, Dr Mette Berg and Professor听Emeritus John Salt. The Unit was established in 1988 by Professor Salt and the late Professor听Claire Dwyer was Co-Director of the MRU until听2019.
The MRU has an established reputation for high-quality funded academic听research, including grants from ESRC, AHRC, the EU and the Leverhulme Trust and consultancies for clients including the Department for International Development (DfID) and the Home Office. Current research focuses particularly on refugees, humanitarian assistance, diasporas and remittances, religion and multiculturalism.
The MRU runs the听MSc in Global Migration听with around 20 students a year, has more than 15 affiliated听PhD students, and convenes an annual graduate student conference. The MRU is also the home of the听Refuge in Moving World Network听which brings together scholars from across 果冻影院 working specifically on forced migration. The听听journal is co-edited by MRU Co-Directors Dr听Mette Berg, Professor听Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh and Professor听Johanna Waters.
