Painting of an ancient Egyptian in regal dress playing a board game that looks similar to chess. They are sat on a chair holding a fan. The background is gold with colourful hieroglyphics.

The Petrie Museum of Egyptian and Sudanese ArchaeologyÌýinvites you to join artist Jaquie Feldman to learn, create and play the ancient Egyptian board game Senet. Challenge someone to this game played by Tutankhamun and take your own version home to play with family and friends.

Senet, also known as the 'game of passing', referencing the journey to the Afterlife, is a game which earliest depiction dates back to 2620 BC. One-hundred years ago in Tutankhamun’s tomb, an elaborate board on a sledge-like stand was discovered; he believed he would still be playing his favourite game of Senet after his death.
