About the CCTU

The Comprehensive Clinical Trials Unit at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº (CCTU) is part of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology along with the Cancer Research UK & ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Cancer Trials Centre, the MRC Clinical Trials Unit at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, and PRIMENT Clinical Trials Unit.

We are a UKCRC registered clinical trials unit, which means that we have met certain standards of quality assessment in both academic and practical aspects of running trials.

The CCTU facilitates the delivery of high quality, regulatory compliant clinical trials of investigational medicinal products (which must be conducted in compliance with the UK Regulations governing the conduct of clinical trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMP)), Advanced Therapies (ATIMP), Medical Devices and other non-IMP trials and studies.

Collaboration with CCTU

We are able to offer a broad range of support for Investigators and Researchers planning to undertake a clinical research project/trial. We aim to work in a collaborative way by providing clinical, statistical, and trial operations leadership in the design, support with grant proposals, conduct, analysis and publication of clinical trials and other well-designed studies. Trials undertaken by the CCTU are usually with ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Chief Investigators, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº sponsorship and grants sitting within ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº.

We encourage Investigators/Researchers to contact us ideally at least 3 months ahead of any grant application deadline. The CCTU reserve the right not to consider proposals with less than 6 weeks of the deadline for submission.

Proposals will be reviewed internally and then pass through the Trial Adoption Group (TAG) process, which occurs approximately two weekly. The TAG is part of the CCTU process for allocating sponsorship in principle, and the purpose of the meetings is to provide advice and support to the Director to inform decision making, and foster a coherent, cohesive, and transparent approach to trial adoption. The ultimate aim is for the CCTU to determine whether the proposal fits in within the Unit portfolio and expertise, and whether resources would be available to ensure a higher chance of success.
