Is this event for me?
This event is forÌýEarly Career Researchers (ECRs)Ìýwhose work develops data and information which is used to evidence climate change.
This includes researchers who directly measure physical variables (like temperature, precipitation), who analyse observational data (like sea level rise and greenhouse gas concentrations), and those who quantify the impacts of climate change (like storm severity and heatwave prevalence).
Event summary
Researchers who produce and analyse climate data are tasked with an important Ìýchallenge: to provide information that explains how human activities are altering the planet. Ìý
The expectation to meet this challenge can feel huge. And yet, for early career researchers in particular, little training is provided to help navigate it.Ìý
At this event, the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Climate Action Unit will explore the role of data experts in the communication of climate change. Ìý
In a series of activities over three hours, participants will interrogate a case study of our project to develop new climate risk metrics. As part of this we will question:Ìý
- the purpose of metrics in climate communicationÌý
- the range of professionals involved the production of climate information (scientists, communicators and designers)Ìý
- the changes needed to buildÌýbetter metrics in the future
Join us to discover the challenges of climate data communication, and opportunities for making them better through your research.Ìý
Please note:Ìýthis workshop will be followed by a drinks reception for a range of people who’ve been involved with the development of these metrics. We’d very much like you to stay for this after the workshop endsÌý(17:00 onwards).
Attendee limits
Due to the capacity of the room and the type of interactive workshop we like to run, there are a limited number of spaces for this workshop.
If you would like to participate, please follow the linkÌýto register your interest. ÌýWe will send an emailÌýto confirm your place in this workshop as soon as we are able to do so.
Accessibility
This event will be held in Bentham House:Ìýa building on the Bloomsbury Campus of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº. If you have any accessibility requirements or concerns about your ability to participate in this event please tell us and we will endeavour to help.
