¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Greek and Latin wants to ensure that all our students and staff from ethnic minority backgrounds feel supported to reach their full potential during their studies and careers.

Mental health

There are over 70 mental health first aiders across ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº. All first aiders have completed two-day Adult Mental Health First Aid training from MHFA England, delivered by ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº trainers.

Athena Swan - Bronze Award

Athena Swan at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº

Established in July 2005, â€¯recognises and celebrates good practice on recruiting, retaining and promoting women in SET (Science, Engineering and Technology) in higher education.
¹û¶³Ó°Ôº has been awarded the Bronze Award. The award recognises that ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº has a solid foundation (the policies, practices, systems and arrangements) for eliminating gender bias and developing an inclusive culture that values all of its staff.  At Bronze University level, the focus is on:

  1. The action already taken and planned which demonstrated the University's commitment at a senior level of the ; and
  2. The journey to which the University has committed itself in order to significantly improve the representation of women and their career progression in SET, with:

Pay and Promotion

To help plan and support career development and recognise achievements, the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Academic Careers Framework is designed to be used in a number of ways by staff and managers.  

Unlike academic staff at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, who are considered for promotion to a higher grade on the basis of their personal impact and achievements in the discipline, PSS are appointed to work at a specific grade. PSS jobs are graded based on the duties and responsibilities required. For a PSS job to be re-graded there must be a significant change in the duties/responsibilities that are required of the job.  At appraisal, all PSS are encouraged to review their job description including any additional roles or responsibilities they have taken on or relinquished during the past year and discussions are held around these to help staff be considered for regrading.

    Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº

    The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Committee meets termly to embed equality and diversity across the department. The ED&I Committee is built around representatives of PhD students, PGTAs, Professional Services Staff, Associate Lecturers (Teaching), Lecturers, Associate Professors and Professors. This ensures that everyone within the department is able to contribute to our ED&I initiatives. If you would like to join the ED&I Committee, contact classics.office@ucl.ac.uk.
