Introduction to the sector of international development, to gain a good understanding of what to expect from the week and events that are running, read insightful blogs from graduates who work within the field of international development, attend panel events featuring researchers and employers/speakers who work within the field of international development and attend an online practical and interactive workshop.

You will also have the opportunity to find out how the industry has been impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

How to prepare

Speaker profiles will be provided for each event, allowing you to do some initial research before attending.ÌýThis will help you ask insightfulÌýquestions at the events themselves.

International Development Insight Event: Networking

Considering a career in International Development? Come along and meet our guest speakers from across internationalÌý organisations. They’ll be sharing their thoughts on how to talk to people at networking events, asking the right questions, building connections, how to make a good first impression and share how networking strategies can be key in leading to recruitment success. You will have the opportunity to practiceÌý networkingÌý with the guest speakers and make new connections.

International Development Sector Insight Event: Disaster Risk Reduction Workshop

Wednesday 22 March, 6pm-8pm

Interested in pursuing a career within International Development? Do you have what it takes to work in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)?

Book your place on this practical and interactive workshop run by ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº alumnus Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) specialistÌýÌý(Partnerships Officer at United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction)Ìýwhere you'll get first-hand experience of working within the DRR space. You'll be exposed to a real-life disaster scenario and work through a case study strategic planning exercise in teams, not only equipping you with the skills relevant to the field but also giving you an exclusive insight into the typical day of a Disaster Risk Reduction professional.ÌýÌý

International Development: Overview of the Sector and Roles with Leadership Consultancy Oxford HR

Insight Into Careers in Development

Monday 28 November, 6pm-8pm

Working in the field of International Development can lead to a fascinating career, but how do people do it? It can be extremely competitive due to a lack of graduate roles available. Researching all opportunities such as internships, paid or voluntary experience is essential to give you an opportunity to get your foot in the door.

At this on campus panel event, you will hear from recent ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº graduates and experienced professionals working in the international development sector about their career to date.

Each panellist willÌýpresent their career journey, how they got into the sector,Ìýtheir day-to-day in their current job, what attracted them to the field? what skills have helped them to develop/progress in the field and will provide you with tips for getting into the sector.
