Cardiac MRI study recruiting patients with dilated cardiomyopathy
20 October 2023
Non-ischaemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a common cardiac condition affecting 1 in 250 people, and patients are at increased risk of sudden cardiac death due to dangerous heart arrhythmia. Studies have shown that DCM patients with midwall septal fibrosis (MSF), a structural abnormality seen on cardiac MRI scans, confers an even greater risk of sudden cardiac death. 听
In our BHF-funded research study 鈥The arrhythmogenic potential of midwall septal fibrosis in non-ischaemic dilated cardiomyopathy鈥, we are studying the hearts of DCM patients with and without MSF. Using novel ECG-imaging techniques and advanced cardiac MRI sequences, we hope to show how midwall septal fibrosis disrupts the heart鈥檚 electrical activity and can lead to dangerous heart rhythms. 听
We are seeking patients with DCM to be part of our study, which involves听a 2 hour visit to our phenotyping centre at听果冻影院 Bloomsbury Centre for听Clinical Phenotyping in Lond. Participants will undergo several non-invasive tests, such as a cardiac MRI scan, an ECG-vest recording, basic measurements such as blood pressure, height & weight, and be asked to provide blood and urine samples.听听If you are interested in taking part, please read the participant information sheet below and听contact Dr Fiona Chan at听f.chan@ucl.ac.uk.听
