Guillaume Salbreux awarded 拢2m grant to explore the physics of cancer

6 June 2019

GS EPSRC Grant

The funded proposal 鈥淪tochastic fluctuations during mammary development and breast cancer morphogenesis鈥澛爄s a collaborative project聽involving a theoretical physicist (, 果冻影院 IPLS and Crick), a physicist expert in photonics (, Imperial聽College) and a stem cell biologist (, Crick).聽The聽project聽will explore how organoid shape variability results聽from fundamental stochastic biological processes, in healthy and cancerous mammary gland聽organoids.聽The joint聽expertise of the 3 teams will be used to bridge the gap between organoid biology and physics聽of non-equilibrium聽systems. It will rely on the generation of suitable mouse models, a bespoke聽microscope required to image breast聽cancer organoids at single cell resolution in multi-well plates,聽and expertise in theoretical physics to understand the聽interplay of mechanical forces and cell fate聽decision in determining the shape and organisation of tissues.

This UKRI call is led by EPSRC, with support from Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and Medical Research Council (MRC). 拢15 million was available from the UKRI Strategic Priority Fund.聽
