Policy guides

The CBC has worked with policy makers to provide resources on behaviour change, to help them in a range of policy areas that influence health and wellbeing.

Achieving Behaviour Change (ABC) Guides

Aims of the guides

Based on the Behaviour Change Wheel framework, these user-friendly guides can help to:

  • develop behaviour change interventions from scratch
  • build on or modify existing interventions
  • choose from existing or planned interventions

These guides provide a framework for understanding behaviour in its context and developing interventions and policies to change behaviour.

Who are the guides for

The firstÌýguide is specifically for national government. The second isÌýfor local government and partners.ÌýPartners includesÌýall organisations wishing to enable behaviour change within or outside their organisations to support people to have healthier behaviours, such as the NHS, emergency services and third sector.

The guidesÌýwere commissioned by Public Health England’s Behavioural Insights team.

Research engagement with policy makers: A practical guide to writing policy briefs

This guide has been developed to support researchers to write effective policy briefs to inform the development or implementation of policy.ÌýWhilst the guide has been written primarily for a UK audience, it is hoped that it will be useful to researchers in other countries.

This guide was produced as part of the NIHR Policy Research Unit (PRU) in Behavioural and Social Sciences.Ìý


Improving health and wellbeing: A guide to using behavioural science in policy and practiceÌý

Aims of the guideÌý
The guide focuses on behaviours in a range of policy areas, that directly or indirectly influence human health and wellbeing, such as:

  • Substance use
  • Diet
  • Physical exercise and injury prevention
  • Behaviours that affect environmental sustainability
  • Antisocial behaviours and pro-social behaviours.Ìý

Who is the guide for

Policy makers and practitioners in public health, healthcare and the wider Welsh public service.
