On 8 鈥 9 November 2016 the 果冻影院 Institute for Sustainable Resources (果冻影院 ISR) will be hosting a two-day conference in London. Being the 5th in a series of BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities/果冻影院 Grand Challenge Symposia it will particularly be addressing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 to 鈥渆nsure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all鈥 as well as to critical implications for other resources such as energy and materials needed to establish water provisioning systems (see SDG 12.2). It will aim to discuss possible water supply scarcities in the future, analyse water markets and policies, as well as modelling approaches interlinking those issues. Finally, it will conclude with a discussion on future water management systems.

We now invite proposals from academic colleagues, practitioners and policy makers interested in presenting research developments that address those issues. The symposium provides an excellent opportunity to present methodologies and findings to a diverse audience of academic researchers, industry representatives, NGOs and policy-makers in the field. Interested parties are invited to submit an abstract of up to 250 words outlining the research they would wish to present, under one of the themes below. It is anticipated that selected papers from the symposium will feed into the production of a journal special issue (to be formalised after the conference).

Themes:

  • Water supply scarcities and interlinkages with other resources
  • Water markets
  • Water policies
  • Water modelling
  • Systemic eco-innovation related to water
  • Outlook on future water management
