IIPP and the British Library partner on new 2019 lecture series, "Innovation and the Welfare State鈥

Innovation and the Welfare State brings together world-leading thinkers to debate how the 21st-century welfare state requires rethinking healthcare, green growth, public access to knowledge and new forms of data ownership.

New dynamic lecture series tackles "Innovation and the Welfare State"

What is the relationship between artificial intelligence, big data and the transformation of modern-day public services? How can the relationship be co-designed to result in inclusive growth?

The welfare state and the innovation economy are often pitted against each other: one the wealth creator and the other the redistributor of that wealth. But could this dichotomy obscure the real opportunity? Could there be ways to unite the power of the welfare state鈥攊n its capacity to create a healthy and educated population鈥攚ith the full power of the fourth industrial revolution?

Innovation and the Welfare State聽is a new public lecture series, delivered by the 果冻影院 Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP) in partnership with the British Library, will explore how to use the power of public services in the 21st century to become drivers of innovation.

The series will bring together world-leading thinkers from different disciplines鈥攆rom healthcare to public access to knowledge, from data ownership to immigration鈥攖o discuss how we can harness the power the welfare state to drive innovation as well as deliver public value.

The six roundtable sessions will be chaired by either IIPP Director聽Mariana Mazzucato, IIPP Deputy Director聽Rainer Kattel聽or British Library Chief Executive聽Roly Keating. They will be joined and feature cutting-edge thinkers from the worlds of economics, innovation and technology.

This latest series builds on IIPP鈥檚 inaugural public lectures series,聽Rethinking Public Value and Public Purpose in 21st-century capitalism, which featured world-renowned designers, architects, economists, and musicians including Richard Rogers, Amanda Levete, Brian Eno, Stephanie Kelton and Jayati Ghosh.

The events are free, but booking is required. There are more tickets available than seats for these events, which are available on a first-come-first-served basis on the evening.
