¹û¶³Ó°Ôº

Simon Cane, Director of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Public and Cultural Engagement (PACE), gave the February ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº ISH Guest Lecture  to an audience of over 60 attendees on Thursday 18 February. 

The lecture was one of the most popular Guest Lectures ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº ISH has hosted, with some very notable and influential people from the world of sustainable heritage in attendance, including; Alison Richmond (Chief Executive at Institute of Conservation (Icon)), Kate Frame (Head of Conservation and Collection Care and Management at Historic Royal Palaces), Nicola Walker (Head of Collections Care and Access at Whitworth Art Gallery) who travelled from Manchester to attend, Helen Ganiaris (Conservation Manager at Museum of London), Sharon Robinson (Collection Care Manager at Museum of London), and Dr Jonathan Ashley-Smith (former Head of Conservation at the V&A), who is world renowned within conservation science. 

Prominent ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº ISH alumni were also in attendance, including Steven Bradley from the 2014 – 2015 cohort, who currently assumes an advisory role working with heritage organisations. Kathryn Tubb from the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Institute of Archaeology was also welcomed, along with current ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº ISH students. 

Simon based his lecture on a meeting led by English Heritage that took place in 1998, with aims to consider the future of conservation. Simon then reflected on the relevance of the challenges identified in that meeting to a post millennial society.

The ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Institute for Sustainable Heritage runs an annual Guest Lecture programme. Our lecturers are invited to address the subject of sustainable heritage, or heritage science, in relation to their own understanding and profession.
