30 June 2021

Three new IEDE scholarships have been announced, named after prominent Bartlett professors who pioneered Environmental Design and Engineering at the Bartlett.

Students

The 果冻影院 Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering (IEDE) at the Bartlett is pleased听to announce three Scholarships available for MSc Programmes:

One scholarship will be awarded for each MSc programme.听The scholarships are awarded based on merit.听The value of the award is 拢5,330听in total for each student.

Scholarships named after pioneers of Environmental Design and Engineering at The Bartlett, which recently celebrated its 55 year听anniversary of rich听history.

The story started back in 1960 with Professor Richard Llewelyn Davies introducing a wholesale restructuring of Architectural education at 果冻影院. Before his appointment, students revolted against traditional Beaux Arts teaching, leading to an investigation from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). In his inaugural lecture, Professor Llewelyn Davies advocated multidisciplinary training, bringing art and social sciences to architectural education. Multidisciplinary research and teaching remain the foundation upon which 果冻影院 IEDE鈥檚 teaching and research are听structured today.

The Environmental Design and Engineering at The Bartlett was thus created. Professor Llewelyn Davies brought in Ralph Hopkinson as the first chair in Environmental Design and Engineering in 1965. With his appointment, Ralph enlarged the scope of architectural education to incorporate environmental and human factors.

The Environmental Design and Engineering at the Bartlett soon expanded, with a dedicated Masters programme which still runs today, launched in 1978, shortly followed by an MSc in Light and Lighting, launched in 1987. Since the dedicated 果冻影院 Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering was established, we have launched complimentary Master鈥檚 in Health Wellbeing and Sustainable Buildings and Smart Buildings and Digital Engineering. Our PhD programme offers students a research environment of the highest standard, allowing them to engage with complex real-world design, engineering and policy projects and issues.

Having established the Institute as the Established centre for Environmental Design and Engineering at The Bartlett, we have since moved from strength to strength. The Institute was named by the Royal Academy of Engineering as a Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Design. We have won an unprecedented three platform grants. Our dedicated team of around 50 academics and researchers continue to innovate in environmental design and engineering, taking on the complex issues of health, productivity, climate change and energy use in the built environment.

Professor Dejan Mumovic,听Director of 果冻影院听Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, explained further:
Since Professor Sir Richard Llewelyn Davies appointed Ralph Hopkinson as the first Chair of Environmental Design and Engineering in 1965, we have advocated multidisciplinary education. We have enlarged the scope of architectural and engineering education to incorporate Environmental Design and Engineering (1978), Light and Lighting (1987), Health, Wellbeing in Sustainable Buildings (2017), and Smart Buildings and Digital Engineering (2018). Multidisciplinary research and teaching remain the foundation upon which our Institute's teaching and research is structured today. I am pleased to announce three MSc scholarships for the academic year 2021/2022, named after two outstanding Bartlett academics, Llewelyn Davies and Hopkinson.鈥
