Duties and Responsibilities

罢丑别听Bartlett School of Environment, Energy & Resources (BSEER)聽is home to four Institutes that specialise in Energy, Environment, Resources and Heritage. 罢丑别听果冻影院 Institute for Environmental Design & Engineering聽(果冻影院 IEDE) delivers world-leading research, teaching and enterprise towards a goal of making our buildings, towns and cities better places in which to live, with a focus on health, human well-being, productivity, energy use and climate change.聽

We are looking to appoint a full-time early stage researcher (ESR) to work on a new project funded by H2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN). The project is titled: 鈥淐loud-based Building Information Modelling (CBIM)鈥. This is a 3-year appointment, and we would expect the post holder to be available to start by October 1st, 2020.

The Early Stage Researcher (ESR) working on the 鈥淏lockchain-enabled CBIM for life-cycle data provenance鈥 project will be part of Research Area 3 on 鈥楥BIM Data & Process Management鈥. The objectives are to develop a framework for decentralised, immutable, secure, and transparent data streams across built assets鈥 lifecycle and increase operational effectiveness through by integrating CBIM with principles of blockchain technology. The specific goals are:

i. Review existing legislative and regulatory information drivers surrounding BIM, blockchain and distributed ledger technologies in the built environment to formulate requirements for blockchain-enabled CBIM;
ii. Develop a methodology to code and implement smart contracts within the CBIM platform;
iii. Devise and implement blockchain-enabled CBIM strategies for facility management;
iv. Prototype, test, calibrate and validate the developed tools, through user engagement with facility managers and other relevant stakeholders, in the form of 鈥榣iving labs鈥.

The post holder is expected to register for a PhD in the School of Construction and Project Management, supervised by Dr Eleni Papadonikolaki. The PhD fees for the three-year period are fully covered by the CBIM grant.聽

This is a 3-year appointment, and we would expect the post holder to be available to start by 01 October 2020 in order to register for their PhD.

Key Requirements

The ideal candidate should have background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Databases, Virtual Environments or other related Engineering areas. In addition, they will have excellent programming skills and be enthusiastic about research and be able to work independently.

Familiarity with at least one of the following technological stacks and ecosystems: Solidity, Hyperledger Fabric ecosystem or Truffle ecosystem is also desirable.

The successful candidate must demonstrate eligibility according to the聽
Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions eligibility requirements as an Early-Stage Researcher (ESR). At the date of recruitment, the candidate must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research career and have not been awarded a doctoral degree.
