CREDS Early Career Researcher Flexible Funding call ran from July to December 2019 and CREDS selected eight projects in March this year, three of which are being led by researchers from ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Energy Institute.

The funding call is the largest single use of CREDS’ Flexible Fund, allocating £1 million to projects led by early career researchers who had not yet led a project of over £100,000.

The successful projects led by ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Energy Institute researchers are:

Social entrepreneurship at the grid edge

Led by Charlotte Johnson, this project will explore how community groups can generate value through an energy system that is becoming more flexible and distributed. The project focuses specifically on demand side response and collective self-consumption opportunities.

Decarbonisation of coastal shipping

Led by Nishatabbas Rehmatulla, this project explores the most suitable geographic locations for ammonia and hydrogen as marine fuels to reduce emissions and develop long term sustainable energy demand.

CoCo hybrid project

Led by George Bennett, this project will look at the energy system benefits of deployment of Compact Combination hybrid heating appliances, which are comparable to a combi boiler in size and heating performance, offering a potential low carbon direct boiler replacement option with minimum disruption.
