Real Hajiyev: Study experience in the Major Infrastructure Delivery MBA

Meet Real Hajiyev, MBA candidate and Principal Banker at European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as he shares experience studying the Major Infrastructure Delivery MBA.

Why did you choose to study the Major Infrastructure Delivery MBA?
Working on financing end of infrastructure projects, I have always been curious about more central components, where complex infrastructure assets are conceived, developed, and delivered. Thus, when I came across this programme, I was immediately impressed by breadth and depth of its focus areas. The programme seemed like the perfect fit to close my knowledge gaps under the guidance of highly reputable infrastructure academicians and professionals at one of the top-ranking UK universities. Plus, the modular approach was a decisive factor for me, as it allowed me to embark on this rewarding journey without leaving my job.


Describe how you’ve been able to apply the skills and knowledge you’ve learned on the course to your current role?
The MBA has helped me to better understand the institutional and operational contexts of infrastructure projects, their building blocks, key success and risk factors as well other aspects that are crucial for successful delivery of large complex infrastructure projects. Thanks to academic and practical knowledge gained in this programme, I feel that I am now better prepared to assess, plan and lead the infrastructure projects I am involved in.

What aspects of your studies have you enjoyed most, during your time on the MBA?
Definitively, the meetings with industry veterans were the main highlight for me. Their personal and professional insights have been valuable to grasp the complexity and dynamics of relationships in infrastructure projects. Also, discussions of case studies with my course mates have providedÌýsignificantÌýinsights, as our cohort is comprised of highly skilled infrastructure professionals from diverse backgrounds.

How do you foresee your MBA studies helping you as you move forward in your career?
I hope to become a well-rounded infrastructure professional, who is better equipped to understand and deal with complexity of infrastructure projects, either in my current function or in future endeavors.

What was your experience of the teaching and level of support on this course?
My experience has been exceptionally positive. I have enjoyed learning from high-caliber lecturers and industry experts. ¹û¶³Ó°Ôºâ€™s facilities and support tools are superb. During off-site periods, you do not feel remote at all, as you have access to all materials and resources. Our classroom has an amazing environment.

What advice would you give to those thinking about studying the Major Infrastructure Delivery MBA at The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction?
If you are genuinely passionate about learning about infrastructure projects, you will not regret joining this program. However, you should be ready to commit your time and focus to fully benefit from this unique opportunity.
