Opening this week at the 聽in Guimar茫es, Portugal, 鈥淔actory of Stories: Finding, Texere and Confabulating 100 years of Coelima鈥 is the culmination of PhD student Fernando P. Ferreira鈥檚 practice-based research at The Bartlett over the last three years.聽

Seen through the lens of Coelima, a textile industrial complex in Pevid茅m, Portugal that聽celebrates聽its 100th birthday this year, the exhibition proposes a reflection on the poetic and ethical capacities of聽site-specific narrative, textile and performative practices as methodologies, and how these can inform and help the architect to approach, mediate and critically reimagine the future of textile factories facing socio-spatial transformation processes in the Vale do Ave region.

The exhibition launched at the weekend, with an opening event featuring a lecture performance,聽鈥淲indow, Cloth and Dust: A fabricated story is worth more than a thousand pictures鈥,聽written by Fernando P. Ferreira and performed by Miguel Cardoso.

The exhibition is open until 18 June 2022.

Fernando is a candidate on The Bartlett鈥檚 Architectural Design MPhil/PhD聽programme, and is based between London and Portugal. His research has been supervised by Professor Yeoryia Manolopoulou and Dr Nina Vollenbroker.
