The annual RIBAJ Eye Line drawing competition celebrates the art of architectural image-making, looking at work by architecture students and practitioners.Ìý

This year, two current Bartlett students and a 2018 graduate have each been commended for their excellent work.Ìý

Student winnerÌý

This piece has won the Eye Line student category for its ‘memorable and original’ content. The drawing depicts a ‘State of the Internet’ diplomatic jacket that reflects the story and experience of Julian Assange, who lived via political asylum inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London for seven years. The flip-up, fold-out, pocket-sized world contains the means of Julian Assange’s eventual liberation.Ìý

Judges commended Theo’s work for being ‘ingenious, funny and elegantly put together’, admitting that ‘of all the Assange schemes [they have seen], this is the best’.

Karolina Kielb
Commended

Karolina’s work was commended for its ‘beautifully composed’ take on arresting global warming. Sited on the Rhône glacier in Switzerland, this project embodies the Ice Stupa typology by using melting ice to restore fragments of the lost glacier. With the advance of the new glacial landscape, the buildings succeed in incremental self-destruction.Ìý

Judges were impressed by Karolina’s work stating, ‘the sense of poetic impermanence comes through strongly.’

Jason Ho
Commended

Jason’s two drawings, were commended by the judges for their ‘intensely detailed and adept work.’ The project is a study of a floating outpost within the territorial waters of the Falkland Islands, assembled from plastic waste in just 12 days.Ìý

Jason took inspiration for the project from the Brexit illusion, inspired by the crying scenes in Alice in Wonderland. The work was commended by the judges for its technical proficiency.Ìý
