AMER0099 History of US-Latin American Relations

***NOT RUNNING INÌý2024/2025***

Module convenor: to be confirmed.

Outline:

This module examines the history of US-Latin American foreign relations through a thematic approach that crosses borders and continents. We will utilise a transnational lens to better understand the US’s foreign relations with Latin America, but also how these interactions changed foreign relations within Latin America. Rather than treating the US as an all-powerful hegemon, we will also assess how Latin Americans challenged and shaped the US’s domestic politics and foreign policy. Individual weeks will focus on themes like military occupations, animals, capitalism, revolution, and protest. We will also discuss contemporary US-Latin American relations.

Assessment:

Methods of assessment vary between modules, and are subject to change.Ìý Please email ia-programmes@ucl.ac.uk for further information.Ìý
