AMER0098 Latin America's Cold War

***NOT RUNNING IN 2024/2025***

Module convenor: To be confirmed.

Outline

This course provides students with an overview of both the history and historiography of Latin America’s Cold War, revealing insights into the relationship between Latin American governments, parties, social movements and armed groups, and transnational and international actors. By examining the histories of socio-economic change, domestic conflicts, and international relations, students will gain an understanding of the past importance and continuing relevance of the debates in both the historiography and contemporary society. The course provides the foundation for the 10,000 word dissertation which constitutes a separately assessed module but is thematically similar and draws on overlapping sources. While the Special Subject is both wide-ranging and detailed, the dissertation will offer students the opportunity to focus on specific sources and historiographical questions with a significantly narrowed focus.

Assessment

Forms of assessment vary between modules and may change from one academic year to another.  Please email the Teaching Administration Team on ia-programmes@ucl.ac.uk for further information.
