Bringing staff and students together at the听果冻影院 Teaching & Learning Conference

Principal theme: Integration of research and education

Our annual Teaching & Learning Conference in April 2016 signalled growing partnership between our staff and students.听

With more than 600 participants, the conference attracted a record number of students, and of the 100 presentations 22 were from students.听

They included Tobias B眉schel, an MSc computer science student, who used Slack听鈥 a cloud-based team collaboration tool 鈥 to vastly improve communication about his course among his classmates. In just six months, students on his programme sent at least 116,000 messages and shared more than 2,600 files using the tool. Tobias told the conference: 鈥淚 thought if Slack works for start鈥搖ps, why not for higher education too.鈥

He is now one of the 果冻影院 ChangeMakers 鈥 an initiative which involves teams of students and staff working together to investigate an issue at 果冻影院 and make improvements 鈥 and is working on creating a Slack community for all students in the computer science department.

Professor Anthony Smith, Vice-Provost (Education and Student Affairs) told the conference he was delighted with the way the university had engaged with the vision of 果冻影院 2034 and that core to this was the ambition of making 果冻影院 鈥渢he best place in the world for the integration of research and education and giving our students an outstanding experience鈥.
