Internship opportunity: ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Communications

6 January 2012

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Communications is looking for an intern February-April 2012 to help us deliver a range of projects in print, digital and audiovisual media.

Internship

The nine-strong team runs a programme of corporate communications targeting staff, students, alumni, donors, government and other groups, that aim to encourage their interest in and involvement with the university.

We maintain ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's homepage and other central websites as well as various social media platforms including the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº YouTube channel. We write and design print publications such as the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Annual Review and introductory booklet About ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº. We also manage ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's corporate identity and coordinate internal communications, and much more…

In an average week you might blog about a high-profile lecture, edit case studies for a print publication, upload images to our Flickr channel, write a profile for our staff newsletter, update a section of our news web archive and help set up the shoot for a short film.

We are therefore looking for a ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº graduate who:

  • has excellent written English, with an eagle eye for detail
  • is keen to learn new skills
  • is interested in a range of subjects, spanning arts, humanities and sciences
  • would be comfortable liaising with people at different levels of seniority
  • has a mature and enthusiastic approach to work, and is happy to work in a lively open-plan office.

You must be available to work four days a week February-April in our central London office near Euston, and to undertake some evening work (mainly to cover events) and routine tasks. Start date can be flexible, depending on current commitments.

We can offer in return:

  • an excellent grounding in a variety of communications skills relevant to a number of careers in the journalistic, creative and public relations industries
  • the opportunity to experience and contribute to the running of communications within a large, complex organization
  • the opportunity to engage with and write about a wide range of stimulating subjects
  • a manager to supervise you and provide guidance throughout your internship
  • a supportive and friendly environment
  • payment of £10 an hour, payable two months in arrears.

If you would like to apply for the internship, please email Neil Rodger on neil.rodger@ucl.ac.uk explaining in no more than 500 words why you are interested and why you think are suitable for the role, and attaching a brief CV by Friday 27 January.
