During the inter war years Pares' major concern was with the School of Slavonic Studies at London University of which he was Director from 1922 to 1939. He was also involved in relief work for Russian refugees in Britain. As a result of his political sympathies and especially his work for the British Government in White held territories during the Civil War, Pares was refused entry to the Soviet Union until late in 1935. He wrote a book about this experience "Moscow admits a critic" (1936, London). He made a further visit to the Soviet Union in 1939. In addition to his work at SSEES Pares gave many lectures to a variety of organisations and lectured on various adult education courses. Some works published by Pares during the inter war period were "A history of Russia" (1926, London) and "My Russian memoirs" (1931, London).
