Biography

Partner in Sir James Esdaile & Co. (q.v.), which failed in 1837.

In 1838 there was a suit over Sir James Esdaile & Co, esp. Rees Goring Thomas's capital: names partners as William Esdaile, Pascoe St Leger Grenfell, Thomas Scott, James Esdaile Hammett and John Athol Hammett. Esdaile was only the 'monied partner', William Esdaile transferred 拢20,000 to name of Rees Goring Thomas for him to commence business with. Thomas Scott was described as little more than a clerk.

Enslaved boy on Unity Valley Pen, Jamaica. Manumitted in 1795 by David Barclay and removed to Philadelphia, with 29 other freed persons from the estate, where he was placed under the care of Society for Improving the Condition of Free Blacks.
