Stewart Kyd

1758 - 1811

Biography

London lawyer with an entry in the ODNB as 'radical and legal writer.' Stewart Kyd of Grays Inn was party with his wife Eleanor formerly Anson widow to a deed of 27/03/1788 with Robert Glasgow (q.v.) under which Robert Glasgow confirmed to the couple an annuity of 拢80 p.a. to Eleanor Kyd (then Anson). Valentine Morris (q.v.) as Governor had transferred the land [and presumably enslaved people attached to it, although the deed does not say this] to Robert Glasgow in 1777 on condition that Robert Glasgow granted an annuity of 拢80 p.a. to Eleanor Anson. Robert Glasgow had then sought and gained a confirmation of the transfer to him after it had been declared invalid by virtue of lack of approval for the original transfer by HM Council; and the deed of 1788 reiterated his promise of the annuity.
