Biography

John Minot contributed 拢11 17s 6d to the University of Pennsylvania following Dr John Morgan's fundraising tour of the West Indies in 1772-1773.

Possibly the same man as John Minot of Portland, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1779. Slave-ownership at probate: 12 of whom 7 were listed as male and 5 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢657.13 Jamaican currency of which 拢630 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢0 currency cash, 拢0 currency debts and 拢5 currency plate.

Possibly also the John Minot of Kingston, merchant, who married Ann Marston in Kingston 11/09/1743; this would make him the father of John Marston Minot (q.v.) and brother-in-law of George Richards of Kingston (q.v.).

Possible identification from a memorial inscription in Kingston Cathedral Church: MARGARET, WIFE OF DANIEL MCQUEEN OF KINGSTON, MERCHT., OB. DEC. 1 1757 AET 29, ALSO THE BODY OF HER SISTER, THE WIFE OF GEORGE RICHARDS EQR. MERCHT. OB: 1 JULY, 1755, AET. 30. LIKEWISE THE BODY OF THEIR SISTER ANN, WIFE OF JOHN MINOT, OB. 17 JANY. 1758 AET. 30, ALSO MARY M .......... 10 SEP. 1764.
