Biography

Slave-trader out of Liverpool and London with 8 voyages in the TASTDB, Governor of slave-forts 'on the coast' in West Africa 1789-1799, then a merchant of Austin Friars, and connected in an as yet unknown manner with the Mount D'Or estate on St Lucia. He was bankrupt in 1819. The firm of F. and A. Swanzy, a predecessor of Unilever and active in the 'legitimate trade' post-abolition, was established by his sons from a second marriage, Francis (Frank) and Andrew.
