Biography

Daughter of Philip Haughton, under whose will [made in 1763 and proved in 1765] she was due to inherit Retirement estate [and the enslaved people on it] in St James Jamaica, at 21 or on marriage. She appears to have inherited but was dead by 1766. The Retirement estate passed to her sisters, Mary James and Lady Anne Clarke (each of whom q.v.).

Sarah Haughton of Hanover, spinster. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1767. Slave-ownership at probate: 283 of whom 163 were listed as male and 120 as female. 65 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢24551.82 Jamaican currency of which 拢16564 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢0 currency cash, 拢0 currency debts and 拢0 currency plate.
