Biography

Attorney of Oxford estate in St Mary, Jamaica, 1755-66, 1772-4 and 1780 (possibly in the intervening periods too). Not listed as a landowner in 1754.

Possibly the Dr John King who contributed 拢10 to the University of Pennsylvania following Dr John Morgan's fundraising tour of the West Indies in 1772-1773; or the John King who contributed 拢30 to the same cause.

John King of St Mary, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1781. Slave-ownership at probate: 33 of whom 17 were listed as male and 16 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢3013.08 Jamaican currency of which 拢1925 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢0 currency cash, 拢882.34 currency debts and 拢45 currency plate.
