Sponsors of Royal Insurance met initially in the offices of Josias Booker. Booker owned 1000 of initial 100,000 shares of 拢20 each. Initially oveseas fire markets, then life insurance. Josias Booker = Chairman 1849; his brother Septimus Booker was solicitor to the new company.

Born into slavery in Carriacou, Grenada, Malvina Wells became a lady's maid in Edinburgh and a trusted family friend to her employers.
