T71/887: claim by the heirs of James & Peter Grant, by their attorney Jas. Mackenzie. Counterclaims from Jane Grant, of George Town, Demerara, and Sophia Fresson (born Grant), each for an annuity of £50 bequest by codicil to the last will of Peter Grant, dated 19th May 1823.

The compensation given in Parliamentary Papers is only one-third, i. e. the compensation due to the heirs of Peter Grant. Two-thirds, or £9661 8s 10d , was awarded to Sir N.C. Tindall, the surviving trustee of James Grant (see British Guiana claim no. 2382A).

T71/1593 p. 16: letter, dated 11/12/1835, to B. Davies, 4 Devonshire Sq., stating that no counterclaims are to be looked at until uncontested claims throughout the colonies are disposed of.

T71/432 p. 1252: enslaved persons were registered by J. Frankland, for the heirs of J. & P. Grant, in 1832.

T71/1259: shows Charles Grant residing in the county of Essex, England. Charles Grant was the son of James and the nephew of Peter. Letter, dated 16/11/1835, from Porter & Nelson, states that Charles Grant has no interest in the two-thirds of the estate of which N.C. Tindall was trustee ('which belong to the Chief Justice'). 'It is  not necessary that we should trouble you with the particulars of the Trusts declared by the Will'.
