The Bartlett is celebrating the establishment of the 果冻影院 Institute for Environmental Design & Engineering (果冻影院-IEDE). IEDE seeks a deeper understanding of the part played by choices relating to buildings and the urban environment in tackling some of the greatest challenges facing mankind, in areas such as health, human well-being, productivity, energy use and climate change.

IEDE鈥檚 activity, staff and students were formerly part of the erstwhile Bartlett School of Graduate Studies. 聽Continued success, including winning two EPSRC platform grants and being named as a Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Design by the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2013, have led to the creation of the new Institute, which will continue to develop existing and new initiatives in the areas of research, teaching and partnerships.

The 果冻影院 鈥揑EDE will continue its highly successful programmes, MSc in Environmental Design and Engineering, the MSc in Facility & Environment Management in London and Singapore, and the MSc Light & Lighting as well as a highly interdisciplinary MPhil/PhD and EngD programme, fostering the IEDE culture of joined-up thinking, communicating and working that is highly sought after in industry.

Dejan Mumovic, Professor of Building Performance Analysis and Deputy Director of 果冻影院-IEDE, explains further on the vision for the newly established institute:

鈥淥ur research, programmes and people have a rich history which dates back to 1965 when Professor Ralph Hopkinson was appointed the first Chair in Environmental Design and Engineering at The Bartlett.聽

As a research driven department, we are developing a thriving, dynamic research agenda; our themes are interdisciplinary and overlapping, and in a constant state of evolution. We are global in character and global in outlook, with a richly international student body, staff and alumni society; a strength that greatly informs and inspires both our teaching and research, alongside our passion to challenge 鈥榶et another brick in the wall鈥� teaching practices in sustainable building design engineering and operation.鈥�
